Kansas City, Kansas—Willie Glen matched a career high with 12 strikeouts over seven scoreless innings and Dave Detienne collected three hits and drove in two runs as the Gary SouthShore RailCats defeated the Kansas City T-Bones 10-0 before a crowd of 4,260 at Community America Ballpark on Wednesday night.  The RailCats have won the first two games in the series that will conclude on Thursday night.

 

Glen (10-1) allowed just two hits and two walks while reaching double figures in strikeouts for the fifth time this season.  He has struck out at least 11 in three of his last five starts and improved his career record with the RailCats to 30-9 with the win.  Glen has allowed just four earned runs over his last five starts covering 35 innings while walking five and striking out 52.

 

The RailCats scored four runs in the first inning off Kansas City starting pitcher Kenny Durost (5-5).  Steve Haake contributed a run-scoring double in the inning, Jose Yepez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Detienne drove in a run with a two-out single.  Another run scored on the first of four errors committed by the T-Bones.

 

Gary added three more runs in the third, getting run-scoring singles from Yepez and Detienne to go ahead 7-0.  Mike Reese hit a two-run home run in the sixth, his third homer of the year, and Eric McNamee drew a bases loaded walk in the ninth to close out the scoring.

 

The T-Bones advanced only one runner as far as third base against Glen and relievers Matt Brinkman and David Byard, who each worked a scoreless inning.

 

The RailCats finished with 13 hits.  Tanner Townsend joined Detienne with three hits while Jay Pecci and Yepez each had two.

 

The RailCats meet the T-Bones again Thursday night at 7:05 p.m.  Josh Habel (9-6, 3.28) will start for Gary against Kansas City's Anthony Boughner (6-3, 5.31).

 

Notes:  The RailCats have scored 19 runs over the last two games, their highest two game total since they scored 21 runs against Edmonton June 2-3…The RailCats were forced to play four players at positions where they seen little or no action this season due to Pecci's sore wrist and the heat exhaustion of fellow infielder Eric Blakeley.  Left without a shortstop, manager Greg Tagert moved normally reliable third baseman Tanner Townsend to short, moved Detienne from first to third, moved Steve Haake from right field to first, and moved Jermaine Allensworth from left field to right.  None of the four had played more than an inning in 2007 at the positions they manned on Wednesday.  Additionally, Mike Reese left the game in the ninth after being hit by a pitch, but the injury did not appear series.  None of the injuries are expected to linger beyond a couple of days.
