Five-Game Win Streak Ends with 7-1 Loss to Gary

Offense held to seven hits, one unearned run in defeat

GARY, Ind. – Jason Shelley and the Gary SouthShore RailCats snapped the Kansas City T-Bones five-game win streak tonight with a 7-1 victory at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Ind.  It also ended a five-game losing streak for the first-half South Division winners.

Gary jumped out in front early, scoring two runs off T-Bones starter Rick DeHart when Steve Haake grounded into a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a throwing error by shortstop Geoff McCallum, plating Eric McNamee and Jay Pecci.

Shelley held Kansas City scoreless until the third inning when the T-Bones scored an unearned run on an RBI single from Mario Delgado, plating Aharon Eggleston.   It was the only run Shelley surrendered in the win, allowing four hits while striking out four and walking three in six and one-thirds innings of work.

After allowing the first inning runs, DeHart shut the RailCats out until a two-run double by Eric Blakeley in the sixth put Gary up 4-1.   DeHart was lifted for Raymond Jenkins in the seventh and picked up the loss in his T-Bones debut, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out three and walking six in the outing.

The T-Bones loaded the bases against reliever Brad Mumma in the seventh, but Delgado struck out to end the threat.

Gary added one more in the seventh off Jenkins and two more in the eighth off Travis Schlichting.   Former Royal Tony Cogan closed out the game for Gary.

The two teams face off in the final game of the series tomorrow night with Chris Krawczyk going for Kansas City versus Travis Kerber of Gary.   First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
