Kalamazoo, MI - The Otters held on to a one run lead for the final four
innings, getting great bullpen pitching from Jared Trout, Kyle Pawalczyk,
and Mike Bille to seal the deal. Evansville took the lead 3-1 in the
fourth inning on a Tom Pennino three run double, but the Kings would
battle back to take the lead, scoring three in the bottom of the frame.
Evansville would tie it in the fifth on an RBI double from Mike Spry, but
Kalamazoo would take the lead right back in the bottom half. The Otters
kept hitting, scoring two more in the sixth, and took the lead on the
bases loaded walk to Daniel Burton. Trout, P-Check, and Bille would
combine for four innings of work, allowing just two hits, striking out
three, and Bille would pick up the save with the tying run on third with
two outs, Burton snared a rocket grounder at first base and beat the
runner to the bag to hang on to the win. Evansville will play the rubber
game of this three games set tomorrow night at 6:05CDT before heading home
for an eight game home stand with division opponents River City and
Gateway coming to town.
