NEWARK, NJ – August 23, 2007 – Christian contemporary rock band Casting Crowns will perform a free concert at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Saturday, September 1st to celebrate the release of their third album, The Altar and The Door. Gates open at 10:30 AM for the 11:30 PM concert, which is being hosted by STAR 99.1, in conjunction with the Goodwill Rescue Mission in Newark, to create “A Day of Hope for Newark.”
Following the concert, STAR 99.1 personalities Johnny and Stacey Stone will join Casting Crowns on-stage for a Q&A session before the band sets up on the concourse to sign autographs. Seating for the event is on a first come-first served basis.
The seven-piece band, originally from Atlanta, GA, has seen their first two albums, Casting Crowns (2003) and Lifesong (2005), go platinum. Lifesong reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums Chart and earned the band a Grammy award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. In addition, seven singles, including “East to West,” the hit song from The Altar and The Door, have risen to number one on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs Chart.
