‘FISH OUTLAST WARRIORS
The Bridgeport Bluefish were able to stay on track against the Road Warriors winning by a score of 8-5. Jay Caligiuri was the offensive stand-out of the game going two-for-four with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Johnny Hernandez kept up his hot streak and started things off for the Bluefish in the bottom of the second with a two out single scoring Jay Caligiuri from second. In the following inning Caligiuri knocked in Nick Ortiz on a bloop single to right field giving the ‘Fish a two run lead.
The ‘Fish were able to put up another run for the third consecutive inning after the Quinton McCracken shot a SAC fly into deep center scoring Steve Hine from third. The action then slowed for the next two innings until Hernandez shot a ball down the right field line to lead off the sixth inning with a stand-up triple. Bobby Malek was able to put a ball deep enough into left to score Hernandez on a SAC fly.
The Road Warriors put on the pressure in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases before Hector Mercado came in to relieve ‘Fish starting pitcher Matt Beech. The Warriors were able to score three runs, dropping the lead to one, before the final out of the inning was recorded.
Mercado could not hold off the Warriors in the eighth as an offensive rally tied the game up at five apiece. The ‘Fish were able to get the offense going again and respond quickly in the bottom half of the inning. Caligiuri started it off as he smacked a line-drive double into center field scoring two. The surge did not end there as another hard shot off the bat of Sandy DeLeon to score Caligiuri from second put the ‘Fish up by the final score of eight to five.
Beech pitched 6.1 innings allowing two earned runs on five hits. Mercado picked up the win for Bridgeport in relief. Bluefish closer Eddy Ramos pitched a perfect ninth inning recording his 15th save of the season. Miguel Martinez absorbed the loss for the Road Warriors after going 1.1 innings and allowing two runs.
The ‘Fish continue their home-stand tomorrow at 7:05 P.M. against the Road Warriors for game two of the series. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark with half price beer, soda and popcorn plus a Bluefish cup giveaway.
