'FISH BLOW BY STORM
The Bridgeport Bluefish won their third straight game over the Lancaster Barnstormers by a score of 8-5. The 'Fish were able to come back from a 5-1 deficit, scoring seven runs in a span of four innings.
Lancaster attacked early as Dominick Ambrosini dropped a two-run bomb, his 18th of the year, in the top of the first inning giving the 'Stormers a quick lead. The 'Fish were able to respond swiftly as center fielder Bobby Malek led off the bottom of the first with a double then crossed the plate on a Nick Ortiz ground out.
Ambrosini continued his power surge with another home run (19) in the top of the third, a three-run blast to right center, raising his RBI total to five for the game. Excitement cooled until the bottom of the fourth when Bluefish Jay Caligiuri and Luis Figueroa both singled and then advanced a bag each on a wild pitch. Steve Hine then drilled a line-drive off the base of the wall in right to score both, closing the gap to 5-3.
The Bluefish heated up again in the bottom of the sixth as ex-Military All-Star Johnny Hernandez went yard with two on base, his first home run of the season, and gave the 'Fish their first lead of the night. The heat continued as Bridgeport picked up two more runs in the bottom of the seventh padding their lead to three.
The scoring ended as Bluefish closer Eddy Ramos came in to dominate the ninth and picked up his 13th save of the season. Bluefish starter Manny Ulloa improves his record to 7-6 after seven innings of work, allowing five runs and striking out eight. 'Stormer pitcher James Lira (7-6) absorbed the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, in one and one-third innings of work.
The 'Fish continue their home-stand tomorrow at 2:05 P.M. facing off against the Camden Riversharks. Sunday is family and senior day at the ballpark and features a Batpen giveaway.
