WARRIORS SWEEP ‘FISH
The Bridgeport Bluefish took an early lead in today’s game but unfortunately they could not hold onto it. The Road Warriors defeated the ‘Fish in the final game of the series by a score of 15-6.
The Bluefish seemed to get off to a great start as second baseman Steve Hine smacked a solo home run in the second at-bat of the first inning. The ‘Fish seemed to be heating up as catcher Sandy DeLeon scored Bobby Malek on a single to right field in the second inning.
However in the third inning the Warriors began their comeback. After David Housel and Fleming Baez got on due to ‘Fish errors, third baseman Josh Arteaga doubled driving in his teammates in to bring the score to 2-2. From this point on the Road Warriors began to battle with the ‘Fish doing little to stop them. Offensive highlights for the team include a three run bomb by Vito Chiaravolloti clearing the net in left field in the seventh inning.
The Bluefish scored six scattered runs throughout the game but this didn’t compare to the 15 of their opposition. This is the first time the Road Warriors have swept the Bluefish this season, as the Bluefish swept them two out of the first three series.
Matt Beech absorbed the loss for the Bluefish giving up eight hits and nine runs, only seven earned, in his 6 1/3 inning appearance. Chad Bentz relieved him in the top of the top of the 8th and allowed six runs in 1 2/3 innings. Franklin Perez closed it out for the Bluefish with a perfect ninth inning.
Road Warrior starting pitcher Randy Dicken had five innings of work before being relieved by Mike Garcia. Kieran Mattison relieved Garcia for one inning and picked up his first win of the season. Chris Eichkorst finished off the game.
The Bluefish are off to Long Island to take off the Ducks on their home field and return home this Thursday against the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 P.M. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark with ½ price beer.
