‘FISH FALL FLAT AGAINST ROAD WARRIORS
Both teams battled back and forth the entire game with the Road Warriors snagging the rubber match of the series over the Bridgeport Bluefish by a narrow score of 4-3.
Bluefish starting pitcher Rafael Bergstrom made his first professional start in the United States an impressive one. He went on to pitch eight innings while allowing four runs on seven hits, walked none and struck out six. Bergstrom retired the first six batters he faced before allowing line drive single in the third.
The Road Warriors got on the board first with one run in the third. The Bluefish responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, a line drive single off the bat of Nick Ortiz plated Bobby Malek tying the game up at one apiece.
Warriors’ Steve Doetsch lit up the scoreboard again with a solo home run in the top of the fifth. Not to be out done, ‘Fish Quinton McCracken smacked his own solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to tie it back up.
The see-saw battle continued in the top of the seventh as Warrior Vito Chiaravolloti smacked a double off the center field wall, advanced to third on a fielders choice, then scored on a wild pitch. Ron Fenwick then added another insurance run for the Warriors with another solo home run in the top of the eighth.
Jesse Hoorelbeke led off the bottom of the eighth by destroying a ball that landed on top of the Arena in left field for his league leading 30th home run of the season bringing the ‘Fish within two of the Warriors.
Benito Baez came in to relieve Chris Eichkorst and did not allow a runner on base for the duration of the game en route to his fourth save of the season. Bergstrom (0-1) absorbed the loss despite the solid outing with Warrior starting pitcher Damien Myers (4-12) picking up the win.
The Bluefish take to the road for the weekend and return home again Tuesday versus the Somerset Patriots. The game begins at 7:05 P.M. and is Two-For-One Tuesday with half price tickets and selected food items plus kids prizes.
