LANCASTER DEVOURS THE ‘FISH

 

The Bluefish got caught in Lancaster’s storm today in Bridgeport as they lost their first game with a score of 9-2.  The rainout of yesterday’s game between the Bluefish and Barnstormer has been rescheduled as a double header on August 23.

            The Bluefish swung with rusty bats today with the exceptions of short stop Nick Ortiz’s lead off solo home run in the first inning and Luis Figueroa’s RBI single in the eighth.  Bridgeport has scored two runs in the past two games on 13 hits.

            Yesterday’s rain out seemed to do Lancaster well as their bats were mightier than their hosts.  Catcher Lance Burkhart hit the first home run of the game for the ‘Stormers in the fourth moving his team into the lead.  Left fielder Dominick Ambrosini went yard to right field scoring three in the eighth.  Centerfielder Jutt Hileman continued the offensive onslaught with a three run double in the top of the ninth then was plated by an Ambrosini single to finish off the ‘Fish.

            Barnstormer pitcher James Lira (6-5) allowed only one run on six hits.  His reliever Ryan Harris kept up what Lira started and allowed no runs during two inning appearance.  Eric Ackerman allowed a single run off the bat of Figueroa scoring Bluefish centerfielder Bobby Malek before Derrick De Priest finished the game for Lancaster.

            Bluefish starter Justin Sturge absorbed the loss in a seven inning outing.  He allowed four runs, three earned, off seven hits while striking out five.  Sturge was relieved by Franklin Perez who allowed one run in one inning of work before Danny Rueckel let up three in 2/3 innings.  Evan Fahrner closed out the game allowing the final run before striking out Lance Burkhart.  

            The teams will face off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 P.M. Sunday at the ballpark is family and senior day with special giveaways and on field autographs.  The ‘Fish will also be hosting a special guest again, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!
