NO NIGHT AT THE BEECH FOR 'STORMERS
The Bridgeport Bluefish were able to pick up another victory against the Lancaster Barnstormers by a final score of 10-2. The Bluefish were able to catch the lead early and never fell behind in the contest as Beech cruised to his eleventh win of the year.
The 'Fish started early with the first two batters, Quinton McCracken and Nick Ortiz, reaching base. Jay Caligiuri advanced the runners on a ground out before Jesse Hoorelbeke knocked in McCracken for the first run of the game on another ground out.
The Barnstormers responded immediately in the next half inning as Jeremy Todd knocked in Dominick Ambrosini on a one out double deep to left center. Bluefish starting pitcher Matt Beech worked out of the threat retiring the next two batters to end the inning.
The action continued as Bluefish designated hitter Marcos Sanchez led off the bottom of the second with a triple down the right field line before scoring on a Sandy DeLeon ground out. Steve Hine walked in his next at-bat followed by a double to deep left off the bat of Johnny Hernandez, giving the 'Fish second and third. Nick Ortiz plated both runners on the second triple of the inning, putting the 'Fish in front 4-1. A single by Hoorelbeke brought across the last run before 'Stormer starting pitcher Rob Henkel closed out the inning.
The Barnstormers picked up one more run in the top of the fourth before the 'Fish continued their offensive onslaught with runs scattered through the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth innings. Beech pitched a gem going eight innings allowing two runs while striking out six. Bluefish Garrett Berger relieved Beech in the top of the ninth and finished out the game without Lancaster crossing the plate again.
The Bluefish had six batters record multi-hit games, including three triples. Ortiz was the offensive standout going four-for-four with one of the triples, three RBIs and two runs scored. Lancaster starter Rob Henkel recorded the loss in the game after allowing 7 runs in 3.1 innings pitched.
The home-stand continues tomorrow at 6:05 P.M. Saturday features a special appearance by Krazy George as well as a post game fireworks extravaganza plus a Bluefish hat giveaway.
