
BRIDGEVIEW, IL (August 1, 2007) – TOYOTA PARK played host tonight to SuperLiga™ Group Stage B play as Club América defeated Monarcas Morelia 3-2 in front of 10,623 energetic fans in Bridgeview, Ill. A goal from América midfielder Juan Mosqueda in the 17th minute opened up scoring for the night, followed by forward Salvador Cabañas’ penalty kick tally in the 56th minute.
Club Amèrica began attacking early, almost marking the first tally in the 7th minute as midfielder Juan Mosquesa slipped a ball from just outside the box, slightly right of center, to forward Santiago Fernandez running into space to his left. Fernandez took two touches and in the absence of pressure from
América opened scoring in the 17th minute of play with a as forward Santiago Fernandez received a pass at the penalty spot, but under pressure, he flicked a pass as he dropped to the turf. Mosqueda, streaking in on the left, recovered the ball and sent a shot from 10 yards out across the goal into the opposite corner past Morelia goalkeeper Moises Munoz as he dove to his left.
Monarcas were unable to capitalize on a scoring opportunity in the 39th minute, as a scramble in front of the net left América unable to clear the ball from 10 yards off the line. Midfielder Jesus Castillo collected the ball at his feet and took a left footed chip shot towards the left side of the goal, but América goalkeeper Armando Navarrete kept the ball out of the net.

Monarcas cut the América lead in half in the 67th minute with a tally from forward Gonzalez Choy, who cleaned up a squandered clearance attempt by Navarrete through a crowded play around the 6-yard box. The score was leveled in the 76th minute, as
América regained the lead in the 85th minute with a goal from defender Federico Insua. Lopez chipped a pass behind the
