HABEL TOSSES A COMPLETE GAME IN A 5-0 RAILCATS VICTORY

GARY, IN-Gary SouthShore RailCats (22-18) left-hander Josh Habel (11-6) held the Joliet JackHammers (17-23) to just one hit in a complete-game 5-0 shutout before 4,545 fans at U.S. Steel Yard on Saturday night.

The RailCats scored one run in the third inning against JackHammers starting pitcher Matt Smith (5-8). Nate Price (1-3) hit a triple to center field and scored on a single by David Detienne (1-3).

Gary pushed across three runs in the sixth inning to make it 4-0. Jay Pecci (0-3) led off the inning with a walk and went to second base when Steve Haake (1-3) reached base with a free pass.

Jermaine Allensworth (1-4) followed with a two-run double and Tanner Townsend (2-4) hit an RBI double to score Allensworth and make it 4-0.

Smith pitched five and two-thirds innings for the JackHammers and suffered the loss. He allowed four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out two.

The JackHammers produced three base runners against Habel on Saturday. Chad Ehrnsberger (1-2) led off the fifth inning with a walk. In the sixth inning, Chris Brown (0-2) was hit by a pitch. Ehrnsberger hit a single to left field with one out in the seventh inning.

Loose Gravel: Brown stole second base for the JackHammers in the sixth inning. He was the only Joliet base runner to advance past first base.

The JackHammers and RailCats resume their series on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Brian Forystek (4-3, 3.33) will start for the JackHammers against Willie Glen (10-1, 3.15) for the Gary SouthShore RailCats.
