KANSAS CITY BATS POWER A 9-2 WIN OVER JOLIET

JOLIET, IL- The Kansas City T-Bones (23-15) scored nine runs on 14 hits to beat the Joliet JackHammers (17-20) by a score of 9-2 before 2,436 fans in a rain-shortened seven inning affair at Silver Cross Field on Wednesday night.

The Kansas City T-Bones scored three runs in the first inning. Rob Watson (2-5) reached first base on a one-out single and scored when Al Benjamin (1-5) smacked a two-run home run over the right center field wall for a 2-0 Kansas City lead.

Calvin Pickering (4-4) came to the plate and hit a solo home run over the right field wall to make it 3-0 T-Bones lead.

Joliet scored its first run of the game in the first inning when Cory Harris (1-4) doubled and came around to score on bloop single to left field by Chad Ehrnsberger (1-3) to make it 3-1.

In the third inning the T-Bones scored two runs against Regits. Mario Delgado (0-4) reached base on a two-base error and moved to third base on a groundout by Benjamin. Pickering hit an RBI single to score Delgado and make it 4-1 in favor of Kansas City,

Aharon Eggleston (3-4) hit an RBI single to score Pickering and make it 5-1 in favor of the T-Bones.

Juan Diaz (1-3) hit a solo home run over the left centerfield wall for the JackHammers in the sixth inning to get Joliet within five runs at 7-2.

The T-Bones pushed across two more runs in seventh inning on a double by Nelson Gord (1-4) to make it 9-2.

The game was delayed by rain after the top of the eighth inning at 9:38. The game was officially cancelled after a 56 minute rain delay.

Loose Gravel: Diaz’s home run in the sixth inning was his 23^rd of the season for the JackHammers. In addition to maintaining his Northern League lead in home runs, Diaz has now tied the JackHammers single-season record of 23 home runs set by Jayson Drobiak during the 2005 season.

The JackHammers now travel to Gary, IN to begin a five-game series with the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Thursday night. Nate Sevier (11-3, 4.85) gets the start on Thursday night against Travis Kerber (6-6, 4.47) for the RailCats.
