JACKHAMMERS COME FROM BEHIND TO WIN 5-2 IN FARGO ON THURSDAY

FARGO, ND-The Joliet JackHammers (15-16) scored four runs in the ninth inning keyed by a tie-breaking RBI single from Eric Scriven (2-3) and a two-run home run from Cory Harris (1-5) to get a 5-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (22-10) before 4,779 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Thursday afternoon.

The JackHammers scored one run in the third inning against RedHawks starting pitcher Mark Michael. Scriven led off the inning with a single and stole second base. Harris followed with an excellent at-bat where he fouled off a handful of pitches before grounding out to move Scriven over to third base.

Scriven scored on a wild pitch to give the JackHammers a 1-0 lead.

The RedHawks scored two runs in the sixth inning against Brian Forystek, who did not allow a hit through his first five innings on the mound. In the sixth inning, Casey Haugen (0-2) got aboard with a one-out walk and went to third base when Joe Mathis (0-4) reached base on a two-base error by JackHammers left fielder Derek Nicholson.

Mike Just (1-3) hit a two-run double to score Haugen and Mathis and make it 2-1.

The JackHammers pushed across four runs in the ninth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Derek Nicholson (1-4) led off the inning with a single and went to second base on a walk by Jake Whitesides (1-3).

Dennis Blackmon (1-2) laid down a sacrifice bunt in front of home plate to move both runners into scoring position. Chris Brown (1-3) followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Nicholson and tie the game at 2-2.

Scriven hit a line-drive single to left field to score Whitesides and make it 3-2.

Harris followed with a  two-run home run over the right field wall to give the JackHammers a 5-2 lead.

Forystek was superb for the JackHammers with seven innings on the mound. He allowed just two runs, (one earned run), on two hits while walking two and striking out 11 men.

Aaron Williams (4-4)  pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings to get the win and Derrick Ellison worked one-third of an inning to get his third save of the season.

Loose Gravel: Juan Diaz (1-4) hit his first triple of the 2007 season in the third inning on Thursday afternoon. With two outs in the inning, Diaz launched a ball to the outfield wall in right center field. Diaz hit only his eighth career triple in a 12-year minor league career that dates back to 1996.
