GOLDEYES BEAT JACKHAMMERS 8-4 IN COME FROM BEHIND FASHION

 

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA-The Joliet JackHammers (13-14) scored two runs over the third and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead only to see the Winnipeg Goldeyes (14-14) score seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead in a game the Goldeyes won 8-4 over the Joliet JackHammers before 6,503 fans at CanWest Global Park on Saturday night. The Kansas City T-Bones won 3-2 in Fargo-Moorhead on Saturday night so the JackHammers now trail the T-Bones by two and one-half games in the Northern League South Division.

 

The JackHammers scored one run in the first inning against Winnipeg right-handed starting pitcher Ben Moore (7-5). Chris Brown (1-4) led off the inning with a single and was followed by Cory Harris (1-5), who popped out in foul territory to Goldeyes catcher Luis Allen. Tim Hutting (0-4) reached first base on a fielder’s choice and Brown was retired at second base. Juan Diaz (1-4) followed with a walk to move Hutting to second base.

 

Chad Ehrnsberger (1-4) hit an RBI single to left field to make it 1-0 in favor of the JackHammers.

 

Joliet pushed across one more run in the second inning to make it a 2-0 lead. Bobby Mosby (1-3) led off the inning with a single and went to second base on a groundout by Jake Whitesides (2-4).

 

Dennis Blackmon (1-4) reached base on an error by the short stop Max Poulin and Harris singled to load the bases.

 

Hutting was hit by a pitch and Mosby scored to give the JackHammers a 2-0 lead.

 

The Goldeyes scored seven runs in the fourth inning against JackHammers starting pitcher Brian Forystek (3-3) to take a 7-2 lead.

 

Chris Latham (2-4) led off the inning by hitting a solo home run to make it a 2-1 JackHammers lead.

 

Brent Metheny (0-3) followed with a two-out walk and went to second base on a single by Aaron McEachran (2-3). Luis Allen (1-4) reached base on an infield single and went to second base on a throwing error by JackHammers third baseman Chad Ehrnsberger.

 

McEachran came around to score on a throwing error from JackHammers first baseman Bobby Mosby and gave the Goldeyes their first lead of the game at 3-2.

 

The Goldeyes scored four more runs in the seventh inning to make it a 7-2 lead.

 

Joliet scored two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run home run over the left field wall by Blackmon to get the JackHammers within three runs at 7-4.

 

Goldeyes DH Walter Young (2-3) came to the plate and hit a solo home run over the right field wall in the seventh inning to give Winnipeg an 8-4 lead.

 

Loose Gravel: When the JackHammers scored their run in the fourth inning, it was the first time in the 2007 season that the JackHammers forced in a run on a batter hit by a pitch.
