GOLDEYES KNOCK OFF JACKHAMMERS 8-0 ON FRIDAY NIGHT
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA-The Winnipeg Goldeyes (13-14) scored seven runs over the first three innings and added an insurance run in the seventh inning to beat the Joliet JackHammers (13-13) 8-0 before 6,386 fans at CanWest Global Park on Friday night. With the JackHammers loss and the Kansas City T-Bones losing in Fargo-Moorhead,
The Goldeyes pushed across three runs in the first inning against JackHammers right-handed starting pitcher Nate Sevier (10-3). Fehlandt Lentini (0-4) led off the game by reaching on a two-base error assessed to JackHammers second baseman Chris Brown. Demond Smith (2-4) hit a single to score Lentini and give the Goldeyes a 1-0 lead. Chris Latham (1-4) followed with a single to move Smith over to second base.
Walter Young (0-5) struck out and Antoin Gray (2-3) followed with a two-run single to score Smith and Latham and make it 3-0 in favor of the Goldeyes.
After Young popped out, Antoin Gray (2-3) hit an RBI single to score Latham and make it 4-0.
Gray proceeded to steal second base and scored on a single by Brent Metheny (2-4) to make it 5-0
Aaron McEachran (1-2) stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run home run over the right field wall to give the Goldeyes with a 7-0 lead.
Sevier left the game after two and two-thirds innings with a groin injury. He allowed seven runs, (six earned runs), on eight hits while walking zero and striking out three.
Loose Gravel: Jason Cierlik came into the game for the JackHammers following Sevier’s departure. He pitched three and one-thirds scoreless innings and allowed one hit while walking four.
The JackHammers and Goldeyes continue their three-game series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Brian Forystek (3-2, 3.33) will start for the JackHammers against Ben Moore (6-5, 4.79) for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
