T-BONES SHUT DOWN JACKHAMMERS OFFENSE TO EARN A 7-1 WIN

 

JOLIET, IL-Anthony Boughner (7-3) and Raymond Jenkins held the Joliet JackHammers (16-19) to one run on six hits as the Kansas City T-Bones (22-14) beat the JackHammers by a score of 7-1 before 2,138 fans at Silver Cross Field on Monday night.

 

Kansas City got two runs on the benefit of one hit in the second inning. Al Benjamin (2-5) hit a leadoff double. He went to third base and scored on wild pitches by JackHammers starting pitcher Matt Smith (5-7). The T-Bones took a 1-0 lead.

 

Calvin Pickering (0-4) followed with a walk and went to second base when Neb Brown (0-2) worked a walk. Pickering went to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nick Jaros (1-2). The T-Bones had a 2-0 lead.   

 

In the fifth inning, the T-Bones added to their lead by scoring a run thanks to doubles by Jaros and Geoff McCallum (2-4). The T-Bones increased their lead to 3-0.

 

Al Benjamin (2-5) hit a solo home run over the left field wall in the sixth inning to make it 4-0 Kansas City.

 

Kansas City added a solo home run from Patrick Arlis (2-4) and two unearned runs in the eighth inning to earn a 7-0 lead in a game they won by the same margin.

 

Smith pitched five innings and allowed four runs on six hits and suffered the loss. He walked two and struck out two.

 

The JackHammers got one run in the ninth inning on a solo home run by Chad Ehrnsberger. It was his 10th home run of the season and got the JackHammers within six runs at 7-1.

 

The JackHammers and T-Bones play game two of their series on “Family Night” Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. Brian Forystek (3-3, 3.64) will start for the JackHammers against Rick DeHart (2-1, 3.60) for the Kansas City T-Bones.
