Gary, Ind.—Darryl Lawhorn's run-scoring triple in the top of the 10^th inning broke a 3-3 tie as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-3 on Thursday night before a crowd of 1,730 at U. S. Steel Yard. The win kept Fargo-Moorhead in the race in the North Division. They are one and one-half games behind Calgary with three games to play in the first half of the Northern League's split-season format. The loss was the RailCats sixth in their last seven games.

F-M's Adam Shorsher walked to start the 10^th inning against RailCats reliever Tony Cogan (1-4). Lawhorn followed with a hard ground ball down the right field line that scored Shorsher as Lawhorn sprinted to third to give the RedHawks a 4-3 lead. Mike Just followed with a single to center to bring in Lawhorn and make it 5-3.

Nate Cotton pitched a scoreless bottom of the 10^th for his seventh save.

Gary broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning when Dave Detienne walked, went to second on Steve Haake's single, to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Jermaine Allensworth's sacrifice fly. Haake later scored in the same inning on a passed ball to make it 3-1.

But Fargo-Moorhead tied the game in the seventh. Joe Mathis tripled to right with one out and scored on Kory Wayment's infield hit to make it 3-2. Steve Obenchain replaced RailCats starting pitcher Willie Glen on the mound and walked Tydus Meadows. After Richard Austin grounded out, Ruben Salazar was walked intentionally to load the bases with two outs before Obenchain walked Juan Melo on four pitches to force in the tying run.

The RailCats could not advance a runner past first base after the sixth inning and lost their second extra inning game in the last five days as their scoring troubles continued. They have scored three runs or less in five of their last seven games, losing all five.

The RailCats host Fargo-Moorhead again Friday in the third game of the five game set. Josh Habel (7-3, 4.50) will pitch for Gary against Fargo-Moorhead's Gerrit Simpson (1-4, 5.37). A fireworks spectacular will follow the game sponsored by Krazy Kaplans and the Post-Tribune.

Notes: The start of Thursday's game was delayed by one hour, 33 minutes by a power outage at U. S. Steel Yard.
