Gary, Ind.—Christian Snavely scored from third base on an error with two outs in the 10th inning as the Schaumburg Flyers came from behind to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 3-2 before a crowd of 2,360 at U. S. Steel Yard on Thursday night.  The loss dropped the RailCats out of first place for the first time this season as they fell to 4-4 in the second half, one game behind the Flyers in the Northern League South Division standings.

With the game tied 2-2, Snavely singled off RailCats reliever Tony Cogan (1-5) with one out in the top of the 10th inning.  Pat O'Sullivan singled to move Snavely to second.  Dario Delgado grounded out to second to advance the runners to second and third, and Billy Malone followed with a ground ball to short that was mishandled by Gary's Jay Pecci for an error as Snavely scored to break the tie.

James Morrison tossed a scoreless bottom of the 10th, allowing only a two-out walk, for his 11th save.

The RailCats wasted a tremendous effort by starting pitcher Josh Habel, the league leader in wins, who worked seven innings, allowing only an unearned run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The RailCats took a 1-0 lead in the fourth without getting a ball out of the infield.  Dave Detienne had an infield single, went to second on Eric McNamee's bunt single, to third on Eric Blakeley's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Steve Haake's ground out to first.

In the sixth, the RailCats scored once more when Detienne started the inning with an infield hit, went to second on a wild pitch, to third on McNamee's ground out, and scored on Haake's sacrifice fly to left.  The RailCats went on to load the bases with two outs, but Schaumburg starting pitcher Nat Harris got Jermaine Allensworth to ground out to short to keep the Flyers within two runs.

Schaumburg scored an unearned run off Habel in the seventh as O'Sullivan scored from second on Blakeley's throwing error from shortstop to make it 2-1.  The Flyers tied the game in the eighth when Demetrius Heath singled off reliever Steve Edsall and scored on Sandy Almonte's triple.

Chad Blackwell replaced Edsall with the tie-breaking run at third and no outs and turned in one of the season's clutch relief appearances, striking out Flyers cleanup hitter O'Sullivan, striking out Delgado, and getting Malone on a grounder to the side of the mound to strand Almonte at third and keep the game tied.

The RailCats got the lead-off man aboard in the bottom of the eighth when Haake was hit by a pitch, but when the count ran to 3-2 on the next hitter, Haake broke for second as Flyers' pitcher Justin Robinson threw to first and Haake was an easy out.  It turned out to be a big play because Jose Yepez followed Haake's base running mistake with a walk, went to second on Tanner Townsend's infield hit, and to third on Jermaine Allensworth's long fly out to left.  But he was stranded at third when Pecci grounded out to first as a pinch hitter.

The RailCats have lost three straight home games for the first time this season after since beginning the year by winning of their first 15 home games, they have dropped eight of 12 at the Steel Yard.

The RailCats host Joliet on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at U. S. Steel Yard in the first game of a three game series.  Jason Shelley (2-1, 7.71) will start for Gary against Joliet's Nick Renault (5-5, 4.57).  The Principle Financial Group Family Fun Fest, an interactive minor league baseball festival, will set up on the concourse starting at 4:00 p.m.  Fireworks will follow the game sponsored by Krazy Kaplans and the Post-Tribune.
