Schaumburg, Ill.—Nat Harris and two relievers combined to scatter eight hits as the Schaumburg Flyers defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-2 in the opener to a three game series Tuesday night before a crowd of 4,694 at Alexian Field. The game snapped Gary's three game winning streak as well as Schaumburg's three game losing streak.

The RailCats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Steve Haake singled to center field to drive in Jay Pecci from second with two outs.

But Schaumburg took the lead for good in the third. Alex Derhak and Mike Rohde each singled to start the inning before Demetrius Heath drilled a three-run home run to left field to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead.

Kyle Leon launched a long home run to left field off RailCats reliever Matt Brinkman with two outs in the sixth to give Schaumburg a 4-1 lead.

The RailCats collected just two hits after the first inning until rallying in the ninth against Schaumburg closer James Morrison. Haake led off the inning with a base hit and Tanner Townsend walked with one out. After Jermaine Allensworth flied to right, Nate Price lined a single to center to drive in Haake and make it a 4-2 game. Pinch hitter Mike Reese followed with an infield single to load the bases and move the tying run to second, but Morrison struck out Eric Blakeley on three pitches to end the game and earn his 12^th save.

Harris (5-4) tossed seven innings, allowing five hits and one run with two walks and three strikeouts for the win.

Gary's Josh Habel took the loss, ending his seven game winning streak. Habel worked five innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, all on the home run by Heath, while walking no one and striking out two. It was Habel's first loss since June 5^th. He had not allowed an earned run over his last three starts covering 21 and two-thirds innings.

The RailCats will meet the Flyers again Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Jason Shelley (3-1, 6.94) will start for Gary against Schaumburg's Drew Dickinson (6-6, 4.90). The RailCats return home on Friday to host Fargo-Moorhead.

Notes: The RailCats activated pitcher Steve Obenchain from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's game.
