Gary, Ind.—Pat O'Sullivan hit a two-run home run and Billy Malone collected four hits to lead the Schaumburg Flyers to an 8-5 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats before a Wednesday afternoon crowd of 2,972 at U. S. Steel Yard.  The loss dropped the RailCats to 4-3 in the second half while Schaumburg improved to 4-3.

RailCats starting pitcher Willie Glen saw his personal nine-game winning streak come to an end.  Glen suffered a loss for the first time since August 23, 2006.

The RailCats took the lead in the first inning when Jay Pecci doubled with one out and scored on Steve Haake's single.  Schaumburg quickly tied the game in the top of the second on a solo home run by Dario Delgado, his sixth of the season and second of the series.  Gary's Jermaine Allensworth answered with a solo homer of his own in the bottom of the second to give the RailCats a 2-1 lead.

Schaumburg battled back to tie the game in the fourth when O'Sullivan led off the inning with a double to right and scored on Malone's two-out single to make it 2-2.  The RailCats jumped back ahead in the fifth when Pecci walked with one out and scored on Haake's double to make it 3-2.

Schaumburg took the lead for good in the sixth.  Christian Snavely singled with one out and O'Sullivan followed with a long home run to left, his eighth of the year, to give the Flyers a 4-3 lead and chase Glen from the game.

RailCats reliever Brad Mumma suffered through a rough seventh inning, allowing four hits and three runs as Schaumburg took a commanding 7-3 lead.  The key hit was Snavely's two-out, two-run single to right to cap off the inning.  Schaumburg added another run in the eighth off RailCats reliever Chad Blackwell to go ahead 8-3.

The RailCats made things interesting in the eighth inning.  Rookie catcher Brett Wallace delivered a run-scoring single to make it 8-4, and when Eric Blakeley walked to load the bases with two outs, the RailCats had the tying run at the plate.  But Schaumburg brought on former major leaguer Brandon Villafuerte, who induced an inning-ending ground out from Eric McNamee to preserve the four run lead.

In the ninth, the RailCats again loaded the bases with one out to put the tying run at the plate, but Villafuerte got Jermaine Allensworth on a sacrifice fly and got pinch hitter Jose Yepez to ground to short to end the game.

Glen (7-1) worked five and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with two walks and five strikeouts to take the loss.  Schaumburg starter Billy Keppinger (5-4) allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings for the win and Villafuerte picked up his first save.

RailCats reliever Matt Brinkmann made his professional debut in relief of Glen in the sixth and struck out the first man he faced.  He retired both batters of his brief outing.

RailCats third baseman Tanner Townsend went 0 for 5 as his 13 game hitting streak, the longest of the year for a Gary player, came to an end.

The RailCats host Schaumburg on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at U. S. Steel Yard in the final game of the series.  Josh Habel (9-3, 3.70) will start for Gary against Schaumburg's Nat Harris (4-4, 6.23).  Joliet comes to town to start a three game series Friday.

Notes:  The RailCats had 11 hits, eight walks, and 20 total base runners, but stranded 12 and hit into two double plays…The loss, couple with Tuesday night's 5-2 loss to Schaumburg, marked just the second time all season that the RailCats have lost by at least three runs on consecutive dates.
