Schaumburg, Ill.—Jimmy Hurst's single to left with one out in the bottom of the 11^th inning brought in Demetrius Heath from third base with the winning run as the Schaumburg Flyers defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-4 on Wednesday night before a crowd of 4,246 at Alexian Field. The RailCats have lost five straight meetings with the Flyers after beating Schaumburg in eight straight games.

Gary took a 4-2 lead to the bottom of the ninth inning before Schaumburg tied the game against RailCats closer Tony Cogan, scoring two runs. The Flyers loaded the bases with one out before Pat O'Sullivan lined a hit to center to bring in one run and Hurst followed with a sacrifice fly to center to bring in another and tie the game. It was Cogan's third blown save of the year along with 13 successful opportunities.

In the bottom of the 11^th, Demetrius Heath led off with a single to right against RailCats reliever Steve Edsall (1-1) and stole second. He went to third on Anthony Monegan's fly out to deep center before the RailCats issued back-to-back intentional walks to load the bases with one out. Hurst followed with a ground ball to the left side that RailCats shortstop Jay Pecci could only make a desperation stab at as Heath scored the winning run.

Schaumburg scored in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but the RailCats picked up the lead in the second. Jose Yepez walked and with one out and went to second on Jermaine Allensworth's single to left. After Mike Reese flied to center, Dale Mueller walked to load the bases, and Dave Detienne followed with a two-run single to center to give Gary a 2-1 lead.

The RailCats scored again in the third when Tanner Townsend lined a single to right with two outs to bring in Jose Yepez from second to make it 3-1.

Schaumburg got back on the board in the sixth inning. With one out, Billy Malone doubled to left-center and scored on Kyle Leon's line drive hit to left to make it 3-2.

Demetrius Heath led off the Schaumburg half of the seventh with a ground rule double to right. But reliever Brad Mumma got the next three hitters, stranding Heath at second.

The RailCats got back on the board in the eighth. Mike Reese walked to start the inning and scored all the way from first base on Dale Mueller's single toward the line in right to make it 4-2, setting the stage for Schaumburg's ninth inning rally.

The RailCats stranded 14 base runners and left the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings when they had the opportunity to take command of the game. David Detienne led a 10 hit attack by going 4 for 6 with two runs batted in.

RailCats starting pitcher Jason Shelley was denied his third straight win. He allowed two runs in five and one-third innings on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The RailCats will meet the Flyers again Thursday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. Travis Kerber (2-4, 4.56) will start for Gary against Schaumburg's Dan Grybash (6-3, 3.89). The RailCats return home on Friday to host Fargo-Moorhead.

Notes: RailCats outfielder Jermaine Allensworth left the game in the sixth inning with a slight hamstring strain.
