PAINTS COMEBACK FOR WIN

The Chillicothe Paints scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night to come-from-behind to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies 6-5 at V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Oh.

Eric Ridener (1-1) gave up all four runs in just 1/3 of an inning.  The usually-dominant closer gave up two hits and walked two in the ninth for his first blown save of the year.

The night started on a high note for the Grizzlies (42-16).  Jeff Vincent crushed the first pitch of the game over the right field wall to put the Grizzlies up 1-0.  They added another first inning run when Eric Beck walked with the bases loaded.

Manny Paula stole home in the third inning as part of a double steal and the Grizzlies led 3-0 after three innings.

The Paints (27-33) scored a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to cut the lead to one.  Both runs came off Grizzlies starter Jason Herman.  Herman went eight innings allowing the two unearned runs on five hits.  He struck out four and did not walk a hitter.

The Grizzlies added an unearned run in the eighth to go up 4-2.  Mike Breyman crushed his 13th home run of the year in the top of the ninth to put the Grizzlies up 5-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth.

Breyman was 3-5 with the homer and an RBI.  Paula was 3-4 with a run.  Vincent was 2-4 with the homer.

The Grizzlies and the Paints will continue the series with a 5:05 (CDT) start Saturday night in Chillicothe, Oh.
