Krysa Effective in Return but Offense Struggles in 6-3 Loss

Krysa allows just two earned in five and two-thirds innings in return from DL

KANSAS CITY , Kan. – Jonathan Krysa was effective in his return to Kansas City's rotation, but the T-Bones offense struggled to give him support in a 6-3 loss to Winnipeg in front of 6,127 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The Goldeyes grabbed the lead in the third inning after a T-Bones throwing error allowed Max Poulin to advance to third base. Poulin scored a batter later on a groundout by Fehlandt Lentini to make the score 1-0.

Following Geoff McCallum's leadoff single and Rob Watson's hit-by-pitch, Kansas City responded in the fourth on a Calvin Pickering single that scored McCallum from second to tie the score at one.

Winnipeg quickly reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Chris Latham, restoring the Goldeyes one-run lead before a double steal allowed Anton French to score from third base, making the score 3-1.

McCallum had a chance to bring Kansas City back in the game in the seventh with the bases loaded and two outs, but Brian Beuning induced him into a soft groundout to first that ended the threat and the inning.

The T-Bones made a late surge on Pickering 's two-RBI double in the eighth that brought Kansas City within two at 5-3, but that was all they would get off of the Goldeyes relief pitching.

In his first start since being sidelined for a month with an arm injury, Krysa pitched five and two-thirds solid innings for Kansas City, giving up two earned runs, three total, on nine hits while striking out four and walking three in the loss.  Travis Schlichting, Danny Core and Matt Schweitzer each allowed one run on one hit in relief.  Ben Moore allowed just one run on four hits in six and two-thirds innings to pick up the win for Winnipeg while Matt Davis earned his ninth save of the season.

Game Notes:  Geoff McCallum's leadoff single in the fourth broke up Benjamin Moore's perfect game…Rob Watson's hit-by-pitch in the fourth inning extended his on-base streak to 19 games at home and 20 games overall…Calvin Pickering's RBI single in the fourth extended his on-base streak to 25 games…Al Benjamin's double in the eighth extended his hitting streak to 11 games since joining the T-Bones on June 24…Winnipeg improved to 16-0 when leading after seven innings this season…The Goldeyes improved to 6-0 against Kansas City this season.
