GRIZZLIES/RIVERHAWKS SUSPENDED WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN ROCKFORD

Wednesday night's game between the Gateway Grizzlies and the Rockford RiverHawks has been suspended due to heavy rain in Rockford. No makeup date is planned.

The Grizzlies were leading the game 8-0 in the fifth when a light rain turned to a heavy downpour. With the suspension, the Grizzlies (37-14) and 'Hawks (25-26) split a two-game series. The Grizzlies took the season series 4-1.

Stephen Holdren and Ryan Saltzgaber each had three-run homers which will not count unless the game is resumed. Grizzlies starter Jason Herman had pitched four innings without allowing a hit. The only reason the game would be resumed is if either or both teams need the game to determine playoffs.

The Grizzlies return home to open a four-game home stand at GCS Ballpark Thursday night. The Southern Illinois Miners are in town for two before the Evansville Otters play two at GCS. Game time Thursday night is 7:05 p.m.
