GRIZZLIES WIN THIRD STRAIGHT
For the second straight night, the Gateway Grizzlies rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Evansville Otters. The Grizzlies won thier third straight game Sunday night with a 5-3 win in front of 5,319 at GCS Ballpark.
Evansville (23-33) scored two first inning runs on three hits off Grizzlies starter Jason Herman to go up 2-0. Herman (2-1) earned the win tossing eight innings. He allowed three runs on just five hits. He struck out two.
Jeff Vincent hit his first home run as a Grizzlie in the third to cut the lead to 2-1. The Otters added a run on a hit in the fourth and led 3-1.
It stayed that way until the sixth. Stephen Holdren tripled off the center field wall with one out. Dustin Roberts followed with his 16th home run of the year to even the score at 3.
The Grizzlies (40-15) took their first lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Roberts led off with a single, then scored on a double from Mike Breyman. Breyman was sacrificed to third on a bunt by Manny Paula. Ryan Sullivan then ripped a two-out double down the left field line to drive in Breyman and put the Grizzlies up by a pair.
Eric Ridener closed it out in the ninth. The closer secured his league-leading 16th save of the year with a virtual 1-2-3 ninth. Ridener walked the first batter he faced, but after a strikeout the game ended on a double play ball.
The Grizzlies take an off day Monday but return to the field Tuesday night. They begin a six-game road trip with a three-game series in Florence, Ky. Game time Tuesday against the Freedom is 6:05 p.m.CDT.
