GRIZZLIES WIN SEVENTH STRAIGHT
The Gateway Grizzlies won their seventh straight Wednesday night with some Independence Day fireworks of their own. The Grizzlies scored six times in the first inning enroute to a 8-5 win over the Rockford RiverHawks in front of 5,587 at GCS Ballpark.
Greg Andrews hit his second grand slam in five days to give the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead. Andrews home run followed two walks and a hit off of Rockford starter Garett Bauer. Stephen Holdren walked following the home run and Josh Dietz followed with his first career home run to make it 6-0. Bauer was finished after giving up the six runs, and only recording a single out.
Rockford (20-21) would get on the board with a run in the sixth on a solo home run by Matt Sauls.
The Grizzlies (31-10) came back in the bottom of the inning with a pair of long balls. Holdren and Dietz went back to back to lead off the inning and the Grizzlies led it 8-1. Holdren was 2-3. Dietz was 2-4 with three RBIs on the pair of homers.
Rockford got three in the seventh off Grizzlies starter Erik Dessau to cut the lead to 8-4. Dessau (6-0) went seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits. He walked three and struck out three.
Eric Ridener pitched the ninth, walking one, to earn his 12th save of the year.
The Grizzlies and 'Hawks continue the series with a 7:05 p.m. game Thursday night at GCS Ballpark.
