GRIZZLIES WIN FOURTH WIN STRAIGHT
The Gateway Grizzlies scored a pair of first inning runs Tuesday night and never trailed. They won their fourth consecutive game, defeating the Florence Freedom 7-1 at Champion Window Field in Florence, Ky.
The Grizzlies (41-15) started the game with three consecutive first inning hits, including a two-run double to the left field corner by Jonathan Armitage. Armitage's double scored Ryan Saltzgaber and Jeff Vincent. Both had singled.
Armitage finished 2-4 with the two RBIs. Vincent finished 3-5 with the two runs and a stolen base.
Florence (28-29) got on the board with an unearned run in the second inning when Grizzlies catcher Charlie Lisk made an errant throw attempting to pick a runner off base.
Lisk atoned for the error in the fourth. Lisk connected with his sixth home run of the year, a two-run shot, to center to make it 4-1.
Manny Paula drove in a pair of runs in the seventh to make it 7-1. Armitage and Vincent both scored after singling. Ryan Sullivan added a ninth inning RBI to make it 7-1. For both Paula and Sullivan it was their only hit of the night.
Mike Breyman was 3-4 with a walk.
Nathan Roush (4-3) earned the win pitching seven innings. He allowed the unearned run on five hits. He struck out five and walked one. The start was his first since June 28. He had been on the injured list with a sore right shoulder. Newcomer David Wasylak pitched two scoreless innings in relief. He struck out five.
The Grizzlies and Freedom continue the series with a 6:05 p.m. CDT start Wednesday night in Florence, Ky.
