‘FISH MAULLED BY BEARS, DROP TWIN BILL
After dropping the opener by a score of 7-1, the ‘Fish experienced déjà vu by dropping the night cap by the same score.
After a quite three innings of play, the bats of the Newark Bears awoke from hibernation, exploding for six runs in their half of the fourth. It started with a single by Marcus Nettles, followed by singles off the bats of Donaldo Mendez and Keith Reed, leading to the first run of the game. The game then broke open when Javier Colina knocked a 2-2 pitch to the base of the left centerfield fence plating two more.
The lone spark for the fish came in the seventh with one out, when Marcos Sanchez sliced a 1-0 offering into shallow left field plating Nick Ortiz. Sanchez and Jesse Hoorelbeke both stood out offensively going two-for-three in the game.
Bluefish starting pitcher Eric Junge (1-2) picks up the loss after allowing three runs, on four hits while striking out six. Matt Perisho, Steven Kent, and Garrett Berger all saw time in relief.
