SHARKS DROP GAME AND SERIES TO ‘FISH, 7-4

Camden, NJ- The Riversharks were unable to take the rubber game of the series against the Bridgeport Bluefish, dropping the final match-up, 7-4, and losing their first series of the second half.

The Bluefish got out to a quick start in the first when Shark starter Ryan Schurman walked Vince Blue. Quinton McCracken would double, scoring Blue. McCracken himself would score off a Lou Lucca single, putting the ‘Fish out 2-0.

Camden got on the board in the fourth when Rene Aqueron hit a three-run homer to centerfield, his first of the season, scoring Matt Demarco who had reached on a walk and Brad Strauss who had knocked out a double.

Marcos Sanchez tied the score at three all when he scored on a sacrifice fly off McCracken.

Brad Strauss scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh after reaching on a single and being driven in by a Pete Shier single, but the ‘Fish struck back in the top of the eighth and Bobby Malek hit a solo homer to tie things up again. Nick Ortiz reached safely on a double and was followed by Jesse Hoorelbeke who was hit by relief pitcher Aric Leclair. Both were driven in by a hard hit double from Jay Caligiuri, putting Bridgeport up 6-4.

The ’Fish would tack on another run in the top of the ninth, thanks to a double from Vince Blue, who was driven in by a sac fly off the bat of Malek. The insurance run would seal up the win for Bridgeport.

The Southern Division First Half Champion Riversharks (1-2, 40-26) make their first visit to Sovereign Bank Stadium tomorrow to face the York Revolution. They return home Thursday to face the Road Warriors at 7:05pm. Thursday is Dog Days of Summer at the ballpark!
