CAMDEN RALLIES BACK, BEAT ‘FISH 5-4
Biernbaum Scores Winning Run After Two Errors

Camden, NJ- The Riversharks started their second half of the season in winning fashion, rallying back to beat the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-4 in a wild comeback.  LJ Biernbaum was able to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth after two consecutive errors from the Bluefish defense.

Camden was first to score in the bottom of the third inning when Craig Paquette reached on a double.  He would then advance on a single by Matt Demarco and score safely after a wild pitch off Bluefish starter Matt Beech.

The Sharks would tack on another run in the fourth when Dwight Maness continued his first-half hot hitting and safely knocked a single.  Angel Pena would follow up with a double to deep right field, which would allow Maness to score, making it 2-0 in favor of Camden.

The Bluefish would answer with three runs of their own in the fifth inning, allowing them to take a 3-2 lead from Sharks lefty Ryan Costello.  Nick Ortiz collected a double, followed by a single from Jesse Hoorelbeke, allowing Ortiz to score.  Jay Caligiuri followed with another single.  Catcher John Nathans put the Bluefish ahead with a two-run double, his 18th of the season.

Denny Abreu started off the seventh with a solo homer to right field, his seventh of the season, to tie the score up at three all.  Pete Shier flied out to right, but was followed up by another solo homer from LJ Biernbaum, his 17th on the year, putting the Sharks ahead 4-3.

Bridgeport would bounce back in the top of the ninth when Ortiz drilled a solo home run to right centerfield, evening the score.  Reliever Alberto Castillo would give up a double to Hoorelbeke before giving way to closer Ramon Linares (2-0), who walked Caligiuri upon entry.  Nathans would nail a ball to third baseman Paquette, who made a nice throw to first baseman Pena to get the out and end the inning.

Camden would rally in the bottom of the ninth, with a single to left field from Biernbaum.  With the go ahead run on base, Pena stepped up to the plate with two outs.  Biernbaum would steal second.  Pena tipped a slow roller down the third base line toward Lucca, but reliever Eddie Ramos (1-2) jumped in to get the ball, throwing it away to first base while trying to tag out Pena at the bag.  Hoorelbeke then collected the ball, overthrowing to the catcher, allowing Biernbaum to score the winning run, earning him The Athlete’s Foot/adidas Player of the Game.

The Southern Division First Half Champion Riversharks continue their three-game homestand tomorrow evening at 7:05 against the Bluefish.  Saturday is a special fireworks extravaganza and sling bag giveaway to the first 1,000 fans courtesy of Rutgers-Camden.  All kids get to run the bases postgame thanks to Camden County Community Partnerships.  Tickets are still available by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9 or logging onto www.riversharks.com.
