Florence, KY – The Otters lost their 8th straight game tonight by a final
of 9-6, but they battled throughout and showed some signs of coming out of
this slump. Evansville trailed 9-0 after four innings as Jake Haggerty
has his worst start of the season, giving up a three-run homer before
hitting former Otter Beau Blacken in the hip on his next pitch. Haggerty
was immediately ejected and the bullpen took over from there. Mark Murray
and Kyle Pawelczyk shut down the Freedom the rest of the way, the Otters
scored six unanswered runs and had the bases loaded for the second
straight game with the result on the line, but struck out looking to end
the game. Ryan Bethel went four-for-four in the game to pace the offense
who put up 13 hits, six of those in the ninth, to just fall short.
Evansville is back in action tomorrow at 6:05CDT against the Freedom in
game two of the three game set at Champion Window Field.
