July 22ND
Sauget, IL – Evansville played a tight one tonight at GCS Ballpark, but
fell short again to the Grizzlies by a final of 5-3. The Otters led 3-1
after the fourth inning, but gave up a two run homer to Dustin Roberts, a
pop fly that snuck inside the right field foul pole to tie it up in the
sixth. Jon Lewis came in for the final out of the seventh, relieving
Justin Jordan with runners at the corners. In the eighth, Lewis allowed
consecutive hits to the first two batters for Gateway, the second, an RBI
double by Mike Breyman to score the go ahead run. The Grizzlies would
tack on another run in the inning and passed the game on to the closer
Eric Ridener who walked Mike Spry to lead off the ninth, but after a
strikeout, got Kasey Wahl to ground into a double play to end the game.
The save was the 16 for Ridener, and sixth for him against the Otters this
season, who drop to 0-10 against the division leaders. After a day off on
Monday, Evansville begins a six-game home stand with Traverse City and
Kalamazoo visiting Bosse Field for the first and only time this season.
