ERRORS COST GRIZZLIES
 
The Gateway Grizzlies committed a season-high five errors Thursday night and it cost them four runs as they dropped the first game of a four game home stand 10-6 to the Southern Illinois Miners.
 
Southern Illinois (28-25) took an early 3-0 lead on a first inning three-run home run by former Grizzlie Rob Wirth.
 
Grizzlies catcher Charlie Lisk made it 3-2 with a home run of his own in the second inning.  Lisk blasted his fifth home run of the year to left to cut the lead to one.
 
The Grizzlies (37-15) trailed 5-2 when they added two runs in the third.  Ryan Sullivan picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk and Josh Dietz hit a sacrifice fly to right to make it 5-4. 
 
Ryan Saltzgaber made it 5-5 in the fourth with his second home run of the year.
 
The Miners went up 8-5 with three two-out runs in the seventh thanks to three Grizzlies errors.  They would stretch the lead to 10-5 with two runs on four two-out hits in the eighth inning. 
 
Stephen Holdren made it 10-6 with a home run, his 15th, leading off the eighth.  Holdren is now tied for the Frontier League with 15 home runs.
 
Billy McKinney (0-1) took the loss for the Grizzlies.  He went 6.2 innings in his first career start.  He gave up six runs, four earned, on six hits.  He walked one and struck out four.
 
The Grizzlies and the Miners wrap up the short two-game set with a 7:05 p.m. game Friday night at GCS Ballpark.
