NEWARK, NJ – July 1, 2007 – Newark Bears second baseman Javier Colina finished the game 3-for-4 including a two-run home run for his team-leading 15th of the season and starter Delvis Pacheco (3-1) allowed only one run on four hits in seven innings as the Bears defeated the York Revolution 6-1 Sunday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the third inning, the Bears sent nine men to the plate scoring five runs including an RBI single by right-fielder Jack Headley, a two-run double by center-fielder Keith Reed, and the two-run home run by Colina giving Newark a 5-1 lead. Center-fielder Marcus Nettles hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth to put the Bears ahead 6-1.
In addition to Colina, Reed added two hits with a run and two RBI, and Headley went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Shortstop Rayner Bautista led the Revolution finishing the day 2-for-3 with two infield singles and an RBI.
Revolution starter Chris Steinborn (3-7) took the loss surrendering six runs on ten hits in seven innings.
The Bears will look to sweep the home-and-home six game series Monday evening at Sovereign Bank Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM.
