‘FISH SWIM PAST HUNGRY BEARS
The Bluefish, though falling behind 5-2 after 3 ½ innings, were able to come back and win 9-6 over Newark. Hector Mercado was credited with his first win of the season while Franklin Perez pitches a perfect ninth to pick up his third save.
Jesse Hoorelbeke was the star of the game recording two hits with three RBIs and a run, including a big fly that left the stadium completely. A total of seven Bluefish had RBIs during the game while five players had a multi-hit game. Newly acquired Marcos Sanchez continues to light up the field leading the game with three hits, bringing his average to .476 this season with the ‘Fish. Bridgeport finished with a total of 13 hits on the game.
The Bears’ bats were not in hibernation, as they recorded twelve hits total in the game. Joe Jiannetti had two hits and an RBI with the only other home run in the game. Javier Colina and Marcus Nettles also contributed offensively with 2 RBIs each.
Pitcher Jason DiAngelo receives the loss giving up 6 runs on 8 hits in 3 innings of work, dropping his record to 1-5. Bluefish starting pitcher Evan Fahrner, who started his first game since 2000, went 3.2 innings allowing four runs and struck out three. Matt Perisho also saw time in relief holding over until Perez shut it down.
Tomorrow the Bluefish continue their series with the Newark Bears at a family friendly start time of 6:05 P.M. Wednesdays are $1 hot dog days at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, and special tomorrow the Bluefish will be wearing jerseys to celebrate Independence Day and there will be fireworks sponsored by Patriot National Bank after the game.
