‘FISH DON’T SURVIVE BEAR ATTACK

 

The ‘Fish were unable to overcome the power of the Bears as they dropped game two of the three game series, 13-9.  Neither starting pitcher made it through three full as Bear Delvis Pacheco allowed eight runs and ‘Fish Evan Fahrner allowed ten, nine earned.

 

The Bears struck hard early, beginning with two runs in the first and eight in the second.  Jose Herrera started off the top of the second with a solo shot to right center.  Javier Colina also knocked out a two-run home run to left during the inning.  Eight runs later Bluefish Steven Kent replaced Evan Fahrner and struck out two of three he faced to close out the offensive onslaught.

 

The bats of the Bluefish refused to go down silently, as they responded with vengeance in the bottom of the third.  Bridgeport first baseman Jesse Hoorelbeke put the first lights on the board with a three run bomb to left, scoring Bobby Malek and Quinton McCracken.  It didn’t end there, as Marcos Sanchez, Kelington Made, Vince Blue, and Malek all picked up RBIs during the inning to complete the second eight run inning of the game.

 

Just as fast as the Bluefish were able to get back into the game, they were taken back out with three more runs from the Bears through the next two innings.  Hoorelbeke went yard again in the bottom of the eighth, destroying the ball over the center field wall.  He finished the day going three-for-four with two home runs, two runs and four RBIs.

 

When the dust settled, Newark relief pitcher Jose Garcia (1-0) picked up the win with Edwin Almonte closing it out with his fifth save and ‘Fish Fahrner records the loss (1-1).
