‘FISH OVERPOWERED BY BEARS AGAIN
The ‘Fish were unable to overtake the Bears in the rubber match of the series as they dropped the game 11-4. The offense of the Bears has been amazing as they scored a combined 24 runs with six home runs in the past two games.
It was Pat Peavey, Newark’s third baseman, which led the charge today with two of the three home runs. Peavey ended with three hits in four at-bats, including three runs and three RBIs. Vic Gutierrez (3-5, 3 runs, 2 RBIs) and Keith Reed (2-4, HR, run, 4 RBIs) both added to yet another offensive attack in the series.
The Bluefish just couldn’t seem to get things going with only one run in any scoring inning. The offensive stand-outs of the game were Jesse Hoorelbeke (2-3, HR, run, RBI), Jay Caligiuri (2-4, HR, 2 runs, RBI) and Kelington Made (2-4, 2 RBIs). Starting pitcher Matt Beech (8-5) picks up his fifth loss of the season.
The Newark Bears have now won two out of three of every series played this season against the ‘Fish. Carlos Mirabal (7-4) recorded the win for them with Justin Huisman notching another save (4) in his 2.2 innings of relief.
The Bluefish goes to the road to face Newark for three more, then out to Lancaster. They return home next Wednesday, July 25th to square off against the Camden Riversharks. The game starts at 7:05 P.M. with $1.00 Dog Day and kid’s prizes.
