BIRD WATCHES SHARKS SINK ‘FISH

 

The Bridgeport Bluefish showed a lack of life early on as they accumulated four errors in the first inning and continued the trend late going zero-for-nine in the final five innings with runners in scoring position.  The Camden Riversharks took advantage as they swam past the ‘Fish in ten with a final score of 8-4.

 

In the wake of the errors in the first inning, one run crossed to plate to open up the game for the ‘Sharks. The ‘Fish were able to battle back in the fifth with three runs off the bats of Vince Blue, Quinton McCracken, and Steve Hine.  During this stretch the field was visited by a bird in the outfield that acted as an obstacle for the rest of the game for each center fielder.

 

The ‘Sharks did not allow the Bluefish to hold the lead for long as they came back strong in the top of the seventh as Brad Strauss took one deep over the right field wall scoring two.  In the eighth the teams exchanged one run each setting up the extra inning match.

 

Extra innings did not last long as the ‘Sharks scored four in the top of the tenth to put the ‘Fish away.  Aric Leclair (3-4) of the Riversharks picked up the win and Hector Mercado of the Bluefish swallowed the loss.

 

Bluefish starting pitcher Eric Junge pitched a gem going 8.2 innings while allowing only three earned runs and struck out eight but it wasn’t enough to take the game.
