‘FISH WALK OFF WITH WIN

 

In a rare low scoring affair, it was the Bluefish pitching that paved the way to victory as Justin Sturge (7-4) pitches a gem in a 2-1 win over the Bears.  Sturge threw 7.1 innings allowing no runs and struck out six.

 

Neither Newark nor the ‘Fish were able to get on base easily.  It was not until lucky number seven that the Bluefish were able to make something happen.  Kelington Made stepped in as a pinch hitter for Lou Lucca and struck a single to right field.  Nick Ortiz then stepped to the plate and smacked a single that the center fielder misplayed which allowed him to circle all the way to third and score Made.

 

Newark clawed there way back into the game in the ninth as Jose Herrera ran in on a double off the bat of John Pachot.  Eddy Ramos was able to work his way out of the inning, and that was the last time a Bluefish took the mound. 

 

All-Star MVP Bobby Malek lead off the bottom of the ninth with a walk then was advanced to second on a SAC bunt by Made.  Ortiz then struck gold again as he shot a single through the left side, scoring Malek and ending the game.

 

Tonight’s game kicked off a three game home stand at the Ballpark.  Tuesday’s game against the Newark Bears will start at 7:05 P.M.  It is two-for-one Tuesday at the Ballpark tomorrow including half-priced tickets and selected food items.  The last game of the series will be played at 10:35 A.M. on Wednesday including $1 hot dogs and soda.
