‘FISH SHINE IN RAINY DAY WIN
The Bridgeport Bluefish were able to bounce back from Saturday’s loss by winning 13-7 today against the Somerset Patriots. Despite the rainy weather the Bluefish shined with six players recording a multi-hit game.
Quinton McCracken scored early for the ‘Fish off of Jesse Hoorelbeke’s line drive to center field. Bobby Malek’s center field triple gave way to another run plating Junior Spivey for the Bluefish. Jay Caligiuri rounded out the inning making the score 3-0 as his double sent Malek home.
The Patriots returned in the fourth closing the gap 3-1, but that did not stop the ‘Fish. Vince Blue sent a double into the outfield allowing for Steve Hine to score from first. Nick Ortiz was unable to get on base in the fourth but his ground out brought Quinton McCracken home again for the second time in two innings.
The ‘Fish extended their lead in the fifth as Jay Caligiuri scored with the bases off the bat of Blue. McCracken knocked in Hine and Sanchez before the inning ended.
The sixth inning was a little worrisome as Somerset had five runs to make the score 6-8. The ‘Fish were not phased and ended the game in the bottom of the eighth with five more runs. Ortiz and Spivey lead off the inning with back-to-back singles, and then Ortiz was knocked in by Hoorelbeke. Malek then recorded the fourth straight single to score Spivey. Caligiuri picked up two RBIs and Blue got an RBI before the inning was over.
Tomorrow’s game at 7:05 P.M. will conclude the home-stand against the Somerset Patriots. Monday night at the ballpark is All-Faith Night.
