BREYMAN'S NINTH INNING HOMER LIFTS GRIZZLIES
Mike Breyman's two out, two-run home run in the top of the ninth Tuesday night lifted the visiting Gateway Grizzlies to a 7-6 victory over the Rockford RiverHawks at Road Ranger Stadium in Loves Park, IL.
The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the club, and is the 10th time the Grizzlies (37-14) have won in their final at-bat. It is the fifth time the Grizzlies have won when trailing after eight innings. Both totals lead the Frontier League. The Grizzlies are again tied for the best record in the league with the Windy City ThunderBolts.
Stephen Holdren led off the ninth inning with a base hit. He was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Ryan Sullivan. Dustin Roberts struck out pinch hitting. Breyman took the count to 3-2 before hitting the line shot to right.
Breyman was 2-4 with the long ball.
The Grizzlies trailed 4-1 before scoring four runs in the sixth inning. Josh Dietz had an RBI single, and Charlie Lisk drove in two with a single. Ryan Saltzgaber drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
Rockford tied it in the seventh with a run off of Grizzlies starter Jeremy Dow. Dow did not get a decision going 6.1 innings. He allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits. He walked one and struck out six.
James Hertel gave up the go-ahead run for the 'Hawks in the eighth inning. He was the receipent of the win thanks to Breyman's homer. Hertel went one inning. He allowed a run on three hits.
The Grizzlies and RiverHawks finish the series with a 6:05 game Wednesday night in Rockford.
