BEARS WIN NORTH DIVISION, EARN FIRST PLAYOFF BERTH SINCE 2002
NEWARK, NJ – July 9, 2007 – The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club finished the first half of the season 36-27, winning 10 of their last 12 games, and overcame five and a half game deficit on June 26 to win the Atlantic League’s North Division and clinch their first playoff berth since 2002.
In the final two weeks of the season, the Bears swept a home and home six-game series against the York Revolution, and won two of three against the first place Bridgeport Bluefish and second place Long Island Ducks.
“Winning the North Division and clinching the organization’s first playoff berth in five years was a goal of ours this season,” said Bears General Manager John Brandt. “Fielding a competitive team enhances the atmosphere and the entertainment fans receive when they come to a game at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.”
All fans that were in attendance for the game Sunday afternoon against the Ducks may redeem their ticket stub at the Bears box office for game one of the playoffs.
