BEARS ENTER HOLIDAY WEEKEND WITH GREAT THEMES AND PLAYOFF DREAMS
NEWARK, NJ – July 6, 2007 – The Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club find themselves tied for second place with the Long Island Ducks and one and half games behind the first place Bridgeport Bluefish as they enter the final weekend series of the first half. Game one of the three-game series against the Long Island Ducks begins at 7:05 PM Friday evening followed by a post-game fireworks spectacular.
The Bears have won eight of their last ten games including a home and home sweep against the York Revolution, and a doubleheader sweep yesterday against the Bluefish. During the past ten games, the Bears have been led by their 2007 Atlantic League All-Star second baseman Javier Colina and his .436 batting average. He has driven in 15 runs to add to his team-leading 51 and four home runs for his team-leading 15.
In addition to the playoff race, the Bears welcome fans to The Den with three exciting themes. On Friday, the Bears will host Latino Family Celebration featuring a post-game fireworks spectacular and special appearances by the voice of Dora The Explorer and New Jersey native Caitlin Sanchez as well as Reggy The Purple Party Dude.
The Bears will open the gates at 5:05 PM for a 6:05 PM first pitch on Saturday as the Bears welcome members of the Newark Fire Department to educate the fans on fire safety with demonstrations on the concourse.
The Bears will wrap up the series on Sunday with Harry Potter Day featuring a baseball card set giveaway (first 1,500 fans). Celebrate the release of the final book in the Harry Potter series as well as the theatrical release of “Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix.” Fans dressed as Harry Potter will receive FREE admission at the box office; all fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win FREE passes to see the movie, in theatres July 13. Gates open at 2:05 PM for the 3:05 PM first pitch.
“We have three great theme nights in place as well as a very competitive team with a chance to make the playoffs for the first time since 2002,” said General Manager John Brandt. “We look forward to an exciting holiday weekend at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, with plenty of entertainment for all ages.”
