RAILCATS USE FIVE-RUN THIRD INNING TO BEAT JACKHAMMERS 6-4
JOLIET, IL-The Gary SouthShore RailCats (2-1) came from behind to erase a 4-0 JackHammers (1-2) lead and walk away with a 6-4 victory before 4,812 fans at Silver Cross Field on Saturday night.
The JackHammers jumped out to a 4-0 lead thanks to two runs scoring in each of the first two innings. Cory Harris (1-4) led off the game for
Kevin Sullivan (1-4) then hit an RBI single up the middle into center field to score Hutting and make it 2-0
In the second inning, Eric Scriven (2-4) led off with a single and went to second base when Harris laid down a sacrifice bunt. Hutting followed with a double to score Scriven and make it 3-0
Diaz’s RBI double pushed Scriven across home plate and gave
The RailCats came roaring back in a big way with a five-run third inning against JackHammers right-hander Nate Sevier (7-2). David Detienne (1-5) singled and went to second base on a single by Eric Blakely (2-5).
Steve Haake (1-5) followed with a three-run home run over the right-field wall to make it 5-3 in favor of
Jose Yepez (2-2) singled and scored on a triple by Tanner Townsend (1-3). Jermaine Allensworth (0-2) hit a sacrifice fly to score Townsend and give the RailCats a 5-4 lead.
Jay Pecci (2-5) hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 6-4.
Loose Gravel: Nate Sevier suffered his first loss in nine stars on Saturday. He last suffered a defeat on Opening Night (May 17) against the Calgary Vipers at Silver Cross Field.
The JackHammers and RailCats conclude their four-game series on Sunday night at 5:05 p.m.
