MONEGAN’S 8^TH INNING RBI SINGLE GIVES THE JACKHAMMERS A 5-4 WIN IN FARGO SUNDAY NIGHT

Fargo, ND-The Joliet JackHammers came back from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks before 3,097 fans at Newman Outdoor Field on Sunday night. An RBI single by Anthony Monegan scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. Monegan went 2-5 and drove in the final two runs of the game for the JackHammers.

The RedHawks started the scoring by scoring two runs against JackHammers right-handed pitcher Matt Smith in the third inning. Darryl Lawhorn (2-4) led off the inning with a single and scored on a two-run home run by Mike Just (2-4). Fargo-Moorhead jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

Fargo-Moorhead increased its lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning. Tydus Meadows (1-3) led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a groundout by Richard Austin (0-4). Juan Melo (2-4) hit an RBI double to score Meadows. The RedHawks left fielder scored on a single by Just to give the RedHawks a 4-0 lead.

The JackHammers scored four runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4. Juan Diaz (2-4) led off the inning with a single and went to third base on a double by Derek Nicholson (2-5). Chad Ehrnsberger (2-4) hit a two-run double to score Diaz and Nicholson and make it 4-2 in favor of the RedHawks.

Ehrnsberger moved to third base on a ground out by Dennis Blackmon (0-4) and scored when Eric Scriven (1-4) reached first base on an error by RedHawks second baseman Mike Just. Monegan hit an RBI single to score Scriven and tie the game at 4-4.

Monegan came to the plate in the eighth inning and gave the JackHammers a 5-4 lead. Tim Hutting (1-3) led off the inning with a single and advanced to second base when RedHawks pitcher Adam Rowe (3-3) threw high to second base to try and force out Hutting. Blackmon reached first base on a fielder’s choice and the JackHammers had runners at first and second base with nobody out. Scriven grounded into a double play to move Hutting to third base.

Monegan followed with a line-drive RBI single to left field to score Hutting and give the JackHammers a 5-4 lead in a game they won by the same margin.

The JackHammers and the RedHawks battle in game four of the series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Joliet will send right-handed pitcher Raymond Jenkins (0-4, 5.94) to the mound against Mark Michael (2-3, 5.88) for Fargo-Moorhead.
