Sliders bats remain cold against Washington

WASHINGTON, PA (June 6, 2007)-Same story, different day. The Slippery Rock Sliders had numerous chances, but couldn't take advantage of their opportunities against the Washington Wild Things on Wednesday. The Wild Things scored two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second to defeat the Sliders, 2-1 in front of a sell-out crowd at Consol Energy Park.

Much like the first game in the series, the Wild Things scored in the top of the first inning after Sliders starter Derek Griffith walked three batters. Griffith (1-1) walked five batters total in the loss.

The Sliders answered in the top of the second inning when left fielder Casey Bowling hit a homerun to left field. The Wild Things picked up a third run in the second, which was enough to hold off a Sliders lineup that ranks last in the Frontier Leagdue in batting average.

The Sliders' first two batters walked in the top half of the fifth inning, but Wild Things starter Patrick Sadler was able to retire the next three batters in order to clean up the mess.

Sadler picked up the win to earn his victory of 2007. Gus Hlebovy pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save.

Sliders third baseman Phil Butch picked up his first hit as a Slider in the loss. Sliders relievers Kory Bucklew and Pete Parise each pitched scoreless innings as well.

RHP Nick Tracy will make the start against the Florence Freedom Thursday night, the start of a four game series. The Sliders will return home to Jack Critchfield Park on Monday to host the Chillicothe Paints.
