ROBERSTON, COLINA POWER BEARS TO VICTORY
NEWARK, NJ – June 28, 2007 – Newark Bears starting pitcher Jeriome Robertson (3-2) allowed only two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings pitched and designated hitter Javier Colina hit a three-run home run and a two-run home run to defeat the York Revolution 5-2 Thursday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
Colina hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give Newark a 3-0 lead, and hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning for his team-leading 14th of the season. With those two home runs, and his home run in his final at-bat last evening, Colina hit home runs in three straight at-bats. Colina ended the day 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and five RBI.
For the Revolution center-fielder Kazunori Tanaka finished the game 1-for-2 with an RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning, which he would later come around to score on an RBI groundout by third baseman Keoni De Renne to cut the Bears lead to 5-2.
Byron Batson (0-1) took the loss surrendering five runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched, and Bears closer Edwin Almonte earned his fourth save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth.
The Bears will look to sweep the three-game series against the Revolution Friday evening at Bears & Eagles Riverfront with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Bobby Brownlie (5-3) will make the start for the Bears against Frank Castillo (0-1) for the Revolution. Gates open at 6:05 PM to Transformers Night featuring a logo baseball giveaway (first 1,500 fans) presented by Re/Max of New Jersey and a post-game fireworks spectacular. The Bears will be offering fans the opportunity to win free passes to see the new Transformers movie in theaters July 4.
