Gary, Ind.—Tanner Townsend scored from third base on Dale Mueller's infield bouncer with one out in the bottom of the 12^th inning as the Gary SouthShore RailCats defeated the Joliet JackHammers 2-1 on Saturday night before a crowd of 3,727 at U. S. Steel Yard. The win improved the RailCats to 16-6 on the season and was their second straight victory over Joliet.

Townsend started the RailCats 12^th inning with a high chopper that bounced over the head of Joliet third baseman Derek Nicholson for a base hit. David Detienne's sacrifice moved Townsend to second, and pinch hitter Mike Reese lined a single to center to move Townsend to third. Mueller then hit a hard grounder along the line that first baseman Juan Diaz lunged to his left to grab. Diaz made a hurried throw home from the ground next to the bag at first, but Townsend easily beat the throw with the winning run.

The RailCats took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Steve Haake walked, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single to center by Jose Yepez. Joliet tied the game in the seventh on a home run to left by Tim Hutting to make it 1-1.

RailCats starting pitcher Josh Habel was outstanding over seven innings, allowing just three hits, but he left the game with the score tied. After Hutting's home run, Joliet put runners in scoring position in the seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10^th innings but could not come up with the big hit.

RailCats reliever Chad Blackwell (4-0) pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Joliet reliever Derrick Ellison (1-1) was charged with the loss.

The RailCats and JackHammers move to Joliet to complete the series on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Jim Paduch (2-0, 3.60) will pitch for Gary against Joliet's Raymond Jenkins (0-2, 4.43). The RailCats return home Tuesday to open a three game set with Schaumburg at U. S. Steel Yard.

Notes: RailCats pitchers allowed just two runs in 21 innings in the two games against Joliet Friday and Saturday after giving up 19 runs in one game Thursday at Kansas City…Gary held onto its five game lead over Schaumburg in the Northern League's South Division…The RailCats are 10-2 at home in 2007 and 18-2 over their last 20 regular season home games dating back to last season.
