Gary, Indiana—Eric McNamee collected three hits and drove in two runs and five RailCats relief pitchers combined for eight strong innings as Gary defeated the Edmonton Cracker-Cats 11-3 on Saturday before a crowd of 3,365 at U. S. Steel Yard.

The win was the RailCats fifth straight and improved their record to 13-3. They have won nine of the last 10 games.

With Gary leading 1-0 in the top of the second, RailCats starting pitcher Jason Shelley was forced to leave the game with a strained left hamstring. Jarod Brown replaced Shelley and committed a balk to bring in one run and then allowed a run-scoring single to George Sandel to give Edmonton a 2-1 lead.

Gary's Nate Priced launched a mammoth home run over the berm in right-center field in the bottom of the second to tie the game, but Edmonton's Sambu Ndungidi answered with a tape-measure home run to left in the top of the fourth to give the Cracker-Cats a 3-2 lead.

Steve Haake doubled to right for the RailCats in the bottom of the fourth and eventually scored on David Detienne's single to center to the game.

In the sixth, Haake started a flurry of RailCats extra base hits with a triple to right. With one out, Tanner Townsend doubled high off the fence in left-center field to bring in Haake and give Gary a 4-3 lead. Two batters later, Mike Reese tripled to center to score two more runs, and Reese scored on Eric McNamee's double to right to make it 7-3.

The RailCats collected four singles in the eighth to score four runs and close out the scoring at 11-3.

Reliever David Byard (1-0) picked up the victory by pitching two scoreless innings. Edmonton starter Scott Richmond (1-1) allowed seven runs in five and two-thirds innings for the loss.

The RailCats, who lead the league in team batting, collected 14 hits to raise their season's mark to .316. Haake, Detienne, Townsend, and Price each had two hits to support McNamee's three-hit game.

The RailCats and Cracker-Cats meet again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (CDT). Willie Glen (2-0, 3.18) will start for Gary against Edmonton's Jordy Alexander (1-1, 8.76). Players of the game from the 2007 RailCats High School Baseball Challenge will be recognized on the field prior to the game.
